The problem of using written historical sources at History of Ukraine lessons in 7-9 grades of secondary school were investigated in dissertation. The approaches of scientists-methodologists to the opportunities of drawing of written sources to the process of teaching history at school were analyzed, the modern condition of the problem in practice of general secondary schools in Ukraine was also clarified. The definition of notion "written historical source" was specificated. The criteria of classification and selection of written historical documents were defined in the research. The methodological principles of effective use of written sources in teaching Ukrainian history in 7-9 grades of secondary school were grounded. The methodical system of formation working skills with historical sources at History of Ukraine lessons in 7-9 grades with simultaneous step-by-step development of independent pupils' work, elaborated by the author of the research, was described and experimentally tested in general educational establishments of Ukraine.
