The research is devoted to studying basic tendencies and regularities of establishment of orthographical and grammatical codes of the literary Ukrainian in the first third of the XX century, realization of codified norms in publicistic and fiction text styles and in lexicographic works as well.The basic factors of linguo-codification are found out, including specificity of linguistic consciousness of philologists of the first third of the XX century. In addition, the research provides the influence of romanticism and positivism ideas, linguistic practice of T. Shevchenko on the specificity of linguistic consciousness and the role of Ukrainian schools, theaters, orthodox clergy, Ukrainian-language periodicals etc.The research provides problems of the orthographical code establishment in literary Ukrainian, in addition with history of the orthographies (1918, 1921, 1928) formation with their peculiarities and also the ways of decision of main discussion questions of orthography from the viewpoint of those times linguistic practice. The traits of grammatical codification of literary Ukrainian are analyzed, in addition with problems of selection, description and terminology denotation of lexical-grammatical word classes in grammars of various types, debatable questions of conjugation and usage of separate language parts and syntactic codification as well. Although the all-Ukrainian orthographical and grammatical code was not created in first third of ХХ century, the "primary" codification of literary Ukrainian took place. The majority of codified prescriptions is up-to-date normative.
