Subject of inquiry: process of research work organization in the higher technical school of Ukraine. Investigation task: the integrated historically-scientific analysis of tendencies of scientists of Kharkov polytechnical institute research work organization in separate directions of fundamental and applied sciences and influence of their scientific achievements on spheres of public life. Research methods: method of actualization, historically-chronological, problematically-chronological, the analysis and synthesis, statistical method. Theoretical and practical results, novelty. It is confirmed that traditions of an union of the research and teaching activity, begun at the end of ХІХ century, on the stage of scientific and technical revolution have got qualitative new features owing to organization of research work in collective forms and supported of efficiency of industrial production growth, enrichment of scientific knowledge and development of system of preparation of engineering and scientific personnel. For the first time basic results of activity of separate scientists, of collectives of researchers, of departments and laboratories, of scientific schools in fields of fundamental and applied sciences are stated. New archival documents of the central and local state archives, of research part, of current office work of NТU "KhPI", including of critical nature which allows to illustrate little-known names and events from the history of KhPI to receive the complete picture of conditions and productivity of scientific work of scientists were injected into scientific turn. Degree of introduction. The lecture course "History of science and technology", educational program of course "Scientific schools and the Scientific centers. History" in NТU "KhPI" were added. Research materials have made a separate theme of an author's facultative course for schoolchildren. Sphere of application: History of Ukraine. History of the higher technical school.
