The thesis deals with complex analysis of cultural and scientific legacy of Ukrainian linguists, education workers of Bukovyna: S.Smal'-Stots'ky, O.Popovych, Z.Kuzelia, Yu.Kobylians'ky, V.Simovych, O.Makovey, V.Kmitsykevych, etc at the end of the XIX-th - beginning of the XX-th centuries. Their works constitute an important though not completely elucidated stage in the history of formation and establishment of Ukrainian language standards. Theoretical achievements of Ukrainian Linguistics of this period were based on theoretical needs of teaching the language at elementary schools, high schools of Halychyna and Bukovyna, spelling and grammatical regulations of the literary language, stylistic improvement of fiction, textbooks and publications. Consolidation of regulations for oral and written speech on the basis of national tendencies of Ukrainian literary language of that time on Ukrainian speaking territories within Halychyna, Bukovyna, Naddnipryanshchyna and other areas was a very significant aspect of Bukovyna linguists' activity. The activity of Bukovyna linguists at the end of the XIX-th - the first quarter of the XX-th century resulted in appearance of the grammar of Ukrainian language that consolidated the phonetic principles of orthography; Shevchenko studies; the translations of Russian and other literary works in Ukrainian language; dictionaries of different types that witnessed the lexical and stylistic richness of Ukrainian language and attested the formation of its norms, working out the scientific terminology etc.
