Essay

In the dissertation on the basis of theoretical and empirical research of the personality Self-Concept it has been demonstrated that the level of Self-concept differentiality and cognitive complexity influences the extent of a person's psychological well-being. In consideration of cognitive-experiential theory (S.Epstein) which is analyzed in the work it has been proved that there is a causal relation between the notions of Self-concept and psychological well-being. The initial adaptation of the American author C.D.Ryff's questionnaire "Scales of Psychological Well-Being" devoted to measuring different constructs of well-being on the Ukrainian sample has been accomplished. On the sample of 180 University students it has been shown that the subjects with high level of Self-concept differentiality and cognitive complexity tend to display higher level of psychological well-being and more optimistic orientations towards the future in such fields as education, professional activity and family life. Empirical data prove that the higher is the level of Self-concept formation in general and such its components as self-esteem, self-attitude, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness to experience, the higher is feeling of psychological well-being.
