Essay

The objectives are to study the specific creative reception of the Old Ukrainian literature by Valeriy Shevchuk, to analyze its aesthetic representation in historical fiction, in prosaic and poetic translations in the Baroque literature and to identify the role of the author as a writer and translator in the modern Ukrainian literature.Methods applied: contextual analysis, hermeneutical and the method of the receptive aesthetics.For the first time V. Shevchuk's translations of the poetry collection by D. Bratkovskiy is interpreted in the philological perspective, writer's commentary to Samil Velichko Chronicles are classified as interpretations of the original text; the Baroque poetic heritage including Shevchuk's translations of Bratkovskiy poetry that has not been studied before has been introduced to the literary thought. Can be applied in the higher education.
