Essay

This is the first thesis in linguistic historiography to reveal the problem of regional association of languages as areal association of unallied languages or languages that are not closely related, still coming into contact with each other. The formation of areal linguistics as a separate branch of linguistics and the formation of linguistic association theory in the works of linguists of the 19 c. - the beginning of the 21st c. have been analyzed in this thesis also. Special attention was paid to researches of I. A Baudouin de Courtenay, N. S. Trubetskoi, R. O. Jakobson.
