TThis dissertation thesis examines the organization of cognitive activity of the 5 - 6th-grade students of general secondary educational institutions in the course of ethics. The thesis provides analysis of how the issue is developed in the theory and practice of teaching ethics at the national and international schools. The work proves that it is possible to raise the efficiency of the cognitive activity of students through the step-by-step stimulation of the active position of a student as a teaching subject based on the psychological patterns of the cognitive learning process. This conclusion stipulates a wide use of different active learning models that range from problem-based training on the part of the teacher and solution of problem-oriented tasks by the students to students' interactivity. In addition, the thesis presents a theoretically grounded and experimentally tested methodology of teaching ethics to the 5 - 6th-grade students as proposed by the author.
