This paper provides a study of the theoretical foundation to ensure the formation of the natural sciences and scientific competency in the future specialists majoring in engineering. The context of the study presents the essence of the natural sciences and scientific competency, its place in the professional competency structure, its subcomponent structure, criteria and levels. The place and the role of the natural science and scientific disciplines in the professional development of the future engineers are shown. We also described the modeling specifics of the engineers' professional preparation. The pedagogical conditions that provide efficient formation of the natural science and scientific competency in the in the future specialists majoring in engineering in higher educational establishments are considered. We developed the model for the formation of the natural science and scientific competency in the professional preparation and experimentally proved its efficiency.
