We studied circulatory and stress-realizing system in 83 elderly and old hypertonic patients during dental surgery that was anesthetized with propofol and thiopental sodium. On the base of indices of central hemodynamics and stress-realizing system (serum concentrations of glucose and cortisol) we found that there is increasing of stress factors before surgery (when patient is waiting for it) due to emotional and painful influences. While pain is treated the concentrations of glucose and cortisol are decreasing. While patients are sedated the levels of arterial blood pressure and general peripheral vessel resistance are getting lower. Propofol anesthesia 4 mg/kg/hour was found to have more stable hemodynamics than 4 mg/kg/hour thiopental anesthesia. Postoperation nausea and vomiting occurred only in 5% of patients after propofol anesthesia comparing 20% of patients after thiopental anesthesia. In the thesis we showed that for general anesthesia in dental surgery for hypertensive elderly and old patients propofol is more preferable anesthetic.
