Essay

The thesis is dedicated to analyzing Kyiv image evolution in local lore and tourist literature of the second part of XIX c. - beginning of XXI c. There have been shown socio-cultural differences of Kyiv image forming in tourist literature of pre-revolutionary period, the content and main tendencies of this phenomena in Soviet period have been analyzed, also the process of Kyiv image modifications in guide-books and photoalbums of Post-Soviet period has been analyzed. The complex test of tourist and local lore literature texts as specific phenomena of mass culture in the middle of XIX c. - beginning of XXI c. has been carried out. The role and meaning of guide-books in esthetic education, historic memory revival, national recognition forming, European domestic culture adopting, modern way of living, have been elucidated. The main Kyiv image transforming tendencies (social symbol) in guide-book texts have been revealed: from mythology of "Common Russian" and "Common Soviet" city to the capital symbol of independent Ukraine.
