Essay

The thesis gives a complete investigation of the most significant classes of motions of a heavy gyrostat with one fixed point. The theorems on necessary and sufficient conditions of permanent rotations, pendulum motions and regular precessions of such gyrostat have been proved with the condition of fixed gyrostatic momentum direction. For each class of motions the value of correspondent gyrostatic momentum has been determined; explicit solutions of the equation of motion have been found. Permanent rotations of a heavy gyrostat with the variable direction of gyrostatic momentum have been investigated too. The problem of asymptotic stabilization of the given rotation about an inclined (non-horizontal) axis has been solved.
