On basis of analysis of the scientific literature there was determined the idea and essence of research skills of students of technical universities. The problem of forming of research skills in pedagogical theory and practice was generalized. The necessity of application of the research method in education as a base of forming of research skills by the future engineers was grounded. The research skills of a future engineer were determined, which are necessary for effective professional activities (prognostic, theoretical, designing, technological and testing ones). The complex of pedagogical conditions for securing the process of forming the research skills by the students of technical universities while studying the professionally oriented disciplines was ascertained. The model of forming process of research skills by the students of technical universities was grounded. The methodical accompaniment of the process of forming the research skills by the future engineers was elaborated. The criteria, indices and levels of the students research skills forming were defined more precisely. The efficiency of an integral gradual process of forming the research skills by the students of technical universities was experimentally proved.
