Koryagin O. Backcross use in lucerne breeding.

Subject of research - the process of trait introgression between Lucerne varieties and species with allowance for characters genetic crossing methods and degree of revival of their functioning in hybrid germplasm. The purpose – to get genetic hybrids with the combination of important traits of two species of lucerne (M. sativa L.) and sickle one (M. falcata L.) in maximum full their manifestation with the use of backcross method for that. The research methods are field and laboratory, ones of variation statistics. A new direction of lucerne breeding with the use of genome markers, genes of self-fertility and backcrosses is worked out. The patent for the lucerne breeding method is obtained with the sickle lucerne variety Narechena Pivnochi entering in the State Registry of Varieties in 2007 is developed. The findings are used in the breeding programmes of the Divisions of Feed Crop Genetics and Breeding of the NRC «Institute of Agriculture of the UAAS».The field of application – breeding scientific institutions, the agricultural production.
