Essay

The dissertation deals with the research of the main problems on the forming the skills of visual aids use at mentally retarded pupils as a mean to manage practical activities at the labour education lessons (elementary level ). The dissertation contains the analysis of the problems under research in general and special psychological and pedagogical literature. It has been revealed that both corrective pedagogy and special psychology consider the issues of the problems under research, in particular, the peculiarities of perception of different kinds of visual aids and their role in the correction of mental sphere. The dissertation analyses the level of pupils, skills in managing practical tasks by using various visual means (patterns, pictures, graphic representations, instruction maps) on the basis of the developed assessment criteria. It has been proved that the forming of definite skills at mentally retarded junior schoolchildren in using visual means in the process of completing practical tasks at the labour education lessons considerably depends on the sufficient development of their intellectual components of work activity (skills to analyze a problem, to plan and to control them). The study has defined the essence of pedagogical conditions which promote using visual aids as means of managing practical activities at mentally retarded junior pupils. The main conditions are: to master by pupils all necessary work skills, to have interest in work, motivation of the activity, desire to solve a problem, ability to actualize obtained knowledge, to use knowledge in solving a new problem.The study also represents approved materials and methodological provision of the correcting and developing teaching which promote forming the skills of use of various kinds of visual aids in the process of completing practical tasks as means of managing practical activities at mentally retarded junior pupils.
