The thesis focuses on training socio-cultural competence in translation students in course of learning German after English. A method of socio-cultural competence training in translation students by means of socio-cultural sensitization has been theoretically substantiated and practically devised. The content and structure of socio-cultural competence was defined, and specificities of its development in translation students learning two foreign languages were analyzed. Means and techniques of effective socio-cultural competence formation by developing socio-cultural sensitization were studied. The research distinguished the stages of socio-cultural sensitization development as well as knowledge and skills appertaining to each stage. The need for distinguishing a new type of exercise with socio-cultural reflection was proved and a sub-system of exercises for developing socio-cultural sensitization devised. Based on the suggested method, a learning model and a complex of exercises for German language practice were developed. The experimental learning corroborated the efficiency of the method developed. Guidelines for organization of foreign languages teaching using socio-cultural sensitization method and for adapting the current methodology and teaching materials for implementing this method were framed.
