The dissertation is devoted to the problem of bipolarity of international currency market as the factor of monetary policy of Ukraine. This paper explored the conceptual foundations of the functioning the international currency market in the system of global currency environment. The term "currency market" is identified in the way of compositing the following classification characteristics: functional, institutional, organizational and territorial. Grounded the term "bipolarity of international currency market" and its characteristics are given. Author analyses theories that explain connection of exchange rate mechanism with the main goals of macroeconomic policy. In dissertation the determinants of evolution of the status of international currency in the global economy are researched. The comparative analyses of structural factors of competitiveness of US dollar and the Euro in the world economy are executed. Also the influence of the introduction of Euro in the regional and global levels is revised. The grounds of the stable functioning of the Euro are analyzed. Author defines the criteria for estimation of official currency reserves of Ukraine. Also the imitational model for estimation of its profitability is developed. There were proposed ways of improving the monetary policy of Ukraine.
