Essay

Methods of teaching mathematics aimed at forming the techniques of mental activity in social and humanities classes and schools pupils are developed and scientifically substantiated in the thesis. Content and semiotic features of a standard level study of mathematics (as a non-core subject) in high school are clarified. The invariant, prognostic and reflexive functions of the techniques of mental activity in mathematical and general development of the pupils, the operating structure of these techniques and the peculiarities of their formation in active and background modes are detected. The criteria, indices and levels of the maturity of the mental activity techniques of social and humanities classes pupils, their connection with the pupils' academic achievements in mathematics are highlighted. Methodical guidelines for high school teachers how to develop and implement into the academic process the methods of purposeful formation of the techniques of mental activity in the process of a standard level study of mathematics are prepared. The efficiency of the offered methods is proven by experiment.
