Essay

The dissertation studies the issues of developing the self-learning competency of the students majoring in the International Economics in the process of learning foreign languages. It analyzes the current state of the problem investigation in native as well as in foreign psychological and pedagogical scientific sources. The thesis highlights the peculiarities of self-learning activity of the tertiary students. It also considers the role of the self-learning competency in the professional education and training system. In addition to this, the paper researches into professional socialization ways of the specialists to be in the field of International Economics. Moreover, the work specifies the interpretation and defines the structural components of the self-learning competency of the target specialism students. Throughout the progression of doing the research there has been used a set of scientific investigation methods, in particular: theoretical, empirical and statistical ones. As a result, the theoretical resources examination on professional improvement of the specialists to be in the sphere of International Economics there have been specified the criteria and performance indicators in terms of readiness of the research participants for the self-learning activity which is viewed as an integrated ability consisting of four components: motivational part which is indicated by the desire of achieving success, cognitive constituent which is displayed by the potential of perceiving knowledge, operational and functional component which is made evidence through readiness for self organization of the study activity and performance evaluation one which is illustrated by readiness to adequately self-evaluate one's academic and professional sphere gains. While following the line of the investigation there have been substantiated and experimentally tested the pedagogical conditions. There has been designed the structural and functional model intended to gradually develop the self-learning competency of the students through the set of activities, methods and approaches based on the cognitive process activating fundamentals (English language-based business simulations), and new information technologies. The model developed is supposed to be realized through seven integrated blocks: target-oriented, organizational and proceeding and performance evaluation. Besides the mentioned blocks, the model includes incoming and outcoming diagnosing, pedagogical conditions, the pedagogical conditions realization tools, results achieved evaluation. The efficiency of the model implementation has been justified by motivational trainings, using English language-based cases which are the part of the ?Set up your own enterprise? business simulation along with the theory and practice competency gaining oriented practical course. The practical value of the research conducted is proved by the improvement made in the ?English Language for Specific Purposes? and ?Business English? curriculum for the students majoring in the International Economics and the impact of those changes on the lifelong capabilities (in terms of gaining a self-learning competency) of the students mentioned. In addition, there has been designed and incorporated into the study process the ?Self-learning competency of the specialists to be in the sphere of the International Economics Activity: theory and practice? study guide. The model and the materials of the research can be used for teaching foreign languages as well as specialism-oriented courses to raise the quality of education of the specialists to be in the target sphere as well as the others who are involved in Economic and Business activity.There have been prepared recommendations concerning the development of the self-learning competency of the students majoring in the International Economics and suggestions how to improve the quality of the student's education and, after their graduation, professional competence.
