Essay

In thesis the spring-summer rituals of the end of the 19th centaury - the 1930s in Boikivshchyna is investigated by means of a wide range of sources and analysis of scientific literature. The spring-summer cycles in Boikivshchyna are regarded on the basis of agricultural-cattle motifs, their interrelations with cosmogonic phenomema and the devotion to the Christian holidays (Easter holidays, St. Yuriy's day, Trinity holidays, Ivana-Kupala, St. Peter's day, the first and the second Spas).On the example of the spring-summer rituals calendar Boikys' culture is outlined as availability of subethnic regional peculiarities directed towards general Ukrainian folk tradition. In thesis innerlocal differences of Boikys' rituals between two historical parts of Boikivshchyna - Galician and Transcarpathian - are noted. It is revealed that the spring-summer summer rituals are transformed in esthetic-entertaining motifs.
