Essay

The dissertation analyses peculiarity of feminine archetype realization and functioning in Ukrainian culture of Middle and Lower Naddnipryanschina Region mythological and poetic tradition, basing on the material of Ukrainian folktales and folk songs, decorative and applied works: decorative painting of wedding chests and wedding towel embroidery. New cultural artifacts are put to use in science: Lower Naddnipryanschina Region at the end of the XIXth-beginning of the XXth century wedding chests, found by the author personally during the field investigation. Deliberate use of Yung's archetype terminology made it possible to save theoretical base of research integrity. Revealing symbolic forms (images, motives, plots) and functions of the Mother archetype, the Anima, the Animus, the Shadow and their connection with the Self - the archetype of transformation made it possible to draw a conclusion on domination of the Womanish beginning among Ukrainian cultural archetypes and peculiarity of its regional actualization in Ukrainian culture. Domination of the Mother archetype, incarnated in the images of Mother-Earth and Ukraine-Mother, that made the earth image of Mother sacral, its connection with the concept of fate as God's prerogative, the image of Mother of God as Mother-Defender defines the humane essence of the Ukrainian culture.
