The research deals with the issues of improving and extending iron ore and mineral base of Ukraine's mining and metallurgical complex grounded on the geological and economic basis in case of ferruginous quartzite deposits being put into operation for underground mining. The mineral base geological and economic assessment of Ukrainian and foreign mining enterprises is performed. The stratigraphic and space location, morphology, mining and geological conditions as well as the substance composition of ferruginous quartzite deposits for underground mining are studied. The factors controlling the space location of commercial deposits are detected and characterized. They include the lithological and facial factors defining the ore body position in the section, the ore thickness and quality; the tectonic factors defining the ore body form and location and the hypergenic factors defining the depth of occurrence of ores as well as their form, quality and technological peculiarities. The methodology of geological and economic assessment is upgraded concerning magnetite quartzite deposits for underground mining. Optimal technical and economic indicators for mining ferruginous quartzite deposits underground are grounded and proven theoretically. The basic results of the thesis are introduced in geological and economic reassessments of ferruginous quartzite deposits at Ukraine's mining enterprises
