Essay

The thesis focuses on the problem of methodology of professional reading skills to the students of the third year – future teachers of German. The content, tasks and aim of professional reading were defined. The definition of mediacompetence was specified and its main skills were defined. Internet texts have been selected according to the formulated criteria. The strategies essential for effective professional online reading have been classified. Learning stages have been defined and a sub-system of exercises for teaching searching, scanning and skimming skills through Internet texts has been created. A learning process model and a range of activities have been devised alongside the suggested method. The experimental teaching has proved the effectiveness of the developed method. Guidelines for the organisation of the teaching process of the above mentioned skills to teachers of foreign languages involving a high degree of self-reflection have been framed.
