Essay

Thesis is devoted to the description of Central Slobozhanshina region during Cossack period. For the first time a complex research was done on the basis of not only written and ethnographic, but also archeological sources. A historiographic review and periodization of region's exploration history were completed. Archeological sites were mapped and their catalogue was prepared, peculiarities of their origin, placement, construction, building and inner layout were determined. Types of living and household structures were distinguished and described. Main categories of things were reviewed and their graphic reconstruction and typology were done. Analysis of these excavations allowed to trace the pattern of development and to provide a detailed characteristics of the material culture of late Medieval Ages on the territory of Slobodska Ukraine. It was discovered that the latter was formed as a result of integration of its two main components: Cherkass (Ukrainian) and Moscow (Russian) cultures. They were distinguished due to the presence of closed archeological complexes, due to stratigraphic and planigraphic observations, to method of analogies as well as analysis of the corresponding written sources. Characteristic features and peculiarities of the population historical development were determined.
