Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the research of life and activity of the famous Ukrainian scientist and organizer in the realm of rail transport, Y.O. Paton (1870-1953). The work depicts the major life stages, scientific and research together with scientific and organizational work of the scientist in the context of activity in the realm of railway bridges building and electric welding in the railway transport. In order to make a profound historical and analitical research of Y.O. Paton's creative development periodization was performed, the major phases of his formation were identified, scientific works were investigated and multifaceted organizational activity was analized. The above steps provide with a decision on his significant contribution to the development of such sectors of the national science as building of railway bridges and electric welding in the railway transport.
