Gerasimenko O. Urban Culture of Volyn of XVI - XVIII centuries

The dissertation is devoted to research on the development of cities in Volyn of period XVI - XVIII centuries. It was found that in XVI - early XVII centuryVolyn land noted positive dynamics of urbanization has been caused by thegeopolitical location, legal, economic, historical and socio-culturalprocesses. The attack on Ukrainian culture gave rise to constant unrests andrebellions during XVII - XVIII century, which in turn led to the destruction ofa large number of cities in Volyn, desolate land, the decline of craft and trade, art, that leading to loss of leadershipposition in competition with other Ukrainian lands in the economic, culturaland artistic life. The traditions and culture of cities of Volynplayed an important role in the formation of Ukrainian national identitythrough educational and religious communities, political, spiritual andartistic centers, economic units in the system of trade and industry, environment and military stronghold of resistance
