The dissertation proposes a scientifically grounded and experimentally proved methodical system of teaching calculus to the humanities lyceum students. The system is aimed at forming mathematical competence as the result of the mathematics education in secondary educational institutions of the 3rd level. In the thesis methods of forming the mathematical competence of the humanities lyceum students are developed, theoretically grounded and experimentally proved (the aims are specified, the content is extended with new elective courses, traditional forms of teaching are expanded with integrated ones, the means of teaching are widened with applied problems using information and communication technologies). A new structural and functional model of forming the mathematical competence of the high school students is elaborated; special methodical recommendations for the secondary school teachers and pedagogical universities students on introducing competence approach into mathematics education and development of mathematics thinking are proposed.
