In the thesis the creative literary imagination of students of higher educational institutions is analysed. Laws of its formation in the conditions of educational activity were thus considered. Communication of creative literary imagination with mental processes - perception, thinking, knowledge, emotions and sensations is tracked also. Specifcity of functioning of literary imagination is characterized considering self-affrmation attempts in creative activity. The role of artistic values as a condition of becoming creative personality is found. The psychological theoretical and methodological analysis of the problems of creative literary imagination of university students is carried out. The diagnostic system is developed for defnition of features and dynamics of creative literary imagination of students. It is proved that the creative imagination is an important informative process which will play an important role in literary activity of the creative person. Process of creation of new original images is possible only under condition of mastering of free literary works from stereotypic suggestions. The training program of development of creative imagination and activation of the creative potential is developed and approved. It is defned that formation of creative imagination of student's youth in the conditions of literary and creative activity will be more effective if there are conditions for accumulation of imagery and verbal representations in creative process of perception of the best samples of art prose and poetry; provided the opportunity to master and to improve the application of mechanisms of agglutination, accentuation, hyperbole , a schematization and fgurative generalization.
