Essay

Dissertation research is devoted to culturological analysis of medieval frescoes of Tavrika. By the material of 13-15 centuries monuments the peculiarities of the Crimean medieval monumental painting are exposed, the path of penetration of Byzantine culture in the territory of the peninsula and its reflection in the tradition of artistic life are traced. The problem of fresco painting is considered in connection with matters of Christian culture as a whole, which is justified by historical subjects and religious processes of time given. The Crimean 13-14 centuries fresco art formed a unique cultural phenomenon, which has incorporated the basic features of Byzantine art "Palaeologus Renaissance" and the local traditions of medieval culture of Tavrika. The Crimean-Byzantine style of art, reflected in the monuments of medieval Crimea, was composed of the synthesis of all the best, that has been achieved in the Byzantine Empire and the original Crimean art. It is proved that the medieval world view of the Crimean artists, manifested in the art of fresco (13-15th centuries) has developed into an integral system of figurative interpretation of reality. Strict images of saints, devotees, heroes and selfless ascetics, serene uniformity of iconographic plots, recurring images of warriors everywhere, austerity colour-everything meets the harsh reality of the medieval Tavrika. The 13-15 centuries Crimean frescoes can be regarded by historians of culture as the Crimean medieval world view.
