The given thesis is on the foundation and activity of the scientific microbiological schools in Novorossiya ( Odessa) University ( the second half of the 19th century - the first half of the 20th century. The main periods and directions of their activity were studied. The scientific contribution of their founders and permanent leaders, such as L.S. Tsenkovsky, O.A. Verigo, I.I. Mechnikov, Y.Y. Bardakh, D.L. Shamis, L.I. Rubenchik, V.V. Podvysotsky, D.K. Zabolotny were analysed. The scientific research work, done by these scientists microbiologists met all the burning requirements of the microbiological science and was submitted to the solutions of the most important social and scientific tasks. The scientific heritage of the mentioned microbiological schools of Odessa is the valuable source of ideas and thoughts which concern the microbiological science on the whole as well as the medical microbiology.
