The object - English communicatively-discourse activity of students majoring in languages. The aim - theoretical grounding and experimental verification of methodology of English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages. Methods - theoretical, empiric, statistical. Novelty - first methodology of English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages has been investigated and scientifically based. The essence of the phenomenon "English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages", its structure have been exposed; the experimental model of English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages which enfolds three stages has been elaborated. The criteria, evaluative indicators and the levels of developing English oral discourse competence have been defined; the concepts "discourse competence", "discourse abilities" have been specified. Theory and practice of teaching students majoring in languages the English language have acquired further development. The results - methodology of diagnostics of English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages has been worked out, the professionally directed linguistic and speech material has been chosen, on the basis of which the system of exercises, a special course "Discourse in Language Teaching" for the students of senior courses majoring in languages have been worked out and the methodological recommendations concerning English oral discourse competence development of students majoring in languages have been developed. The efficiency of introduction is high. The field - pedagogical, pedagogical institutes of higher education.
