3. In the dissertation on the basis of data of ethnodemographic statistics, sociological questioning and results of field researches, conducted by author, pre-conditions and features of formation of Ukrainian ethnic society in Portugal (1998 - 2010) are cleared up. The place and role of ethnic society in the life and consciousness of Ukrainian migrants is explained. It's proven that mass labor migration of Ukrainians to Portugal occurred in 2001 - 2003. During 2002 - 2003 Ukrainians became the most numerous association of migrants in this country. They left ahead people from former Portuguese colonies. Mass arrival and legalization created conditions for association of Ukrainian citizens in ethnic societies. Their activities help to preserve and develop of national identity, culture, language, traditions etc. Owing to different historical circumstances Ukrainians which live outside their state try to be attached to cultural, economic and political life of modern Ukraine.
