Essay

The dissertation is focused on the ideologic-aesthetic, ideologic and poetic features of Leonid Mosendz's Novel "The Last Prophet" in the context of Biblical-sacred motifs and images; the historic and philosophic trends and ideologic novel's context are under study. "The Last Prophet" stands out in Ukrainian literature due to its specific experimental artistic project. On the one hand, it is a constituent of the whole system of the historic novels of the XX c., it represents another trial to go back to the sacred epoch - the epoch of Evangelic events, to recreate prehistory of Christ-Messiah's coming to earth, to create the artistic version of Ivan the Baptist - Egohanan by expressive means; on the other hand, it declares the most essential issues of creating a solid unity of Ukrainian people out of non-state nation through the historic prospective of another nation, its struggle for religious identity and national traditions. The Thesis specifies the amplification changes in Evangelic "text-basics", the use of epochryphic motives in the text transform Evangelic substratum. The image of Ivan Egohanan (Ivan the Baptist) and Evangelic Epoch represented in the novel do not deform sacred inspiration, neither the main character image nor the Evangelic text historic truth.
