Essay

The dissertation investigates the traditional fishery of Eastern Galicia in the second half of the ХІХth century - 30-years of the ХХth century. The influence of legal, economic and environmental factors on the development of this sector of the economy was studied. Fishing is seen through the prism of ethno-social structure of society. It was done an attempt of classification tools and methods of fishing, there were represented characteristic features of their application.The system of people's knowledge and understanding of the fish fauna was analyzed. In the thesis was investigated the symbol of fish and their semantic meaning in the culture of the population of Eastern Galicia. It was revealed the synthesis of pagan and Christian elements fishing omens and superstitions.
