Kudina I. Formation and operation of the network of higher educational institutions of railway profile in Ukraine (the end of XIX century - the first third of XX century)

In the research is presented the analysis of formation and operation of the network of higher educational institutions of railway profile in Ukraine (the end of XIX century - the first third of XX century). Investigated origins of the railway education in the Russian Empire. Elucidated the role of the St. Petersburg Institute of Transport Engineers, as one of the oldest institutions of higher railway education, in formation the engineering potentials of the railway industry. Ascertained a range of features of particular ways of railway education at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1898-1929), at the Kyiv Commercial Institute (1908-1920) and at the Kyiv Institute of National Economy (1920-1929). Characterized formation and development of the railway education at the first higher educational institution of railway profile in Ukraine: at the Kyiv Institute of Transport Engineers (1929-1930) and the Kyiv Institute of Rail Transport Engineers (1930-1934). As a result of the scientific and historical analysis, the importance of higher railway education for the development of rail transport is shown; is found out the role of prominent domestic scientists and pedagogues of the mentioned educational institutions of the first third of XX century in the development of railway transport and its industry.
