Essay

The professional training of veterinary medicine doctor in Great Britain and Ukraine is considered in the research, scientific sources are analysed, historical periods of the development of higher veterinary education in the United Kingdom are revealed. The peculiarities of organisational structure of veterinary education in Great Britain are determined, Undergraduate and Postgraduate components are distinguished. Practice-oriented programs (leading to PG-certificates and PG-diplomas) of higher veterinary establishments of UK, independent scientific work (leading to PG-certificates of RCVS and PG-diplomas of RCVS) and employer’s training (internship and residence) can be considered as peculiarities of Postgraduate professional training of veterinary doctors in Great Britain. Preclinical stage of Bachelor training (1-2 years), after special course «Intercalated», can lead to the degree of Bachelor of Life Sciences, clinical stage – to the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, master training – to the degree of Master of Life Sciences. Teaching in the big groups (especially problem lectures) is the main form of Bachelor training at the preclinical stage; training in the small groups (especially problem tutoring, practical and clinical methods etc.) is popular at the clinical stage. Independent work of students (method PAL) and distance Postgraduate veterinary education are considered to be very important in the higher veterinary education in UK. A structural model of professional training of a doctor of veterinary medicine in the UK, containing theoretical, rich in content and procedural block, is described. The ways of positive ideas application in British pedagogical experience are determined on the basis of comparative analyses of vocational training of veterinary medicine doctor in higher educational establishments of Ukraine and Great Britain.
