Essay

The thesis is devoted to improving future English teachers' phonological competence. In the thesis, a new methodology of future English teachers' self-study work at improving their pronunciation was developed. The structure of phonological competence was specified. The factors of fossilization were analyzed. Psychological and didactic fundamentals of self-study work were studied. A cyclic model of pronunciation improvement was proved. Theoretical backgrounds were used to create a subsystem of exercises for future English teachers' self-study work on pronunciation improvement. A special multimedia computer course "Sound English" was created. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology of future English teachers' phonological competence improvement was verified and confirmed during experimental teaching. Based on theoretical study and outcomes resulted from the development and experimental validation of the new methodology, methodological recommendations for self-study work at pronunciation improvement were elaborated.
