Essay

Dissertation is devoted to the life and work of Hersevanov Mikhail Nikolayevich (1830-1907), famous construction engineer, scientist in the field of Hydrotechnics. The paper represents main stages of his life, scientific and organizational creativity of the engineer in the context of Hydrotechnics activity. For deep historical and analytical research a periodization of creative ways of the scientist was done, main stages of his establishment were revealed, scientific works were studied and multifaceted engineering activity of M.N. Hersevanov in construction, scientific, technical and pedagogical field was analyzed. His contribution to the development of Hydrotechnics, railway transport, road (highway) construction was studied. Important role of M.N. Hersevanov as a historian of science and technology, propagandist and popularizer of science was identified.
