The paper is devoted to the evaluation of the influence of nitric oxide and the blocker of NO-synthase L-NAME on the processes of water and electrolytes (Na+, K+, Cl-) transport in colon under normal conditions and in experimental colitis in rats. In control animals L-arginine inhibited the absorption of the ions Na+; L-NAME introduction caused the increase of Na+ ions absorption. L-arginine administration in colitis caused the reversion of Na+ ions absorption to the secretion. Introduction of L-NAME in colitis caused insignificant increase of Na+ absorption. Melanin (20 mg/kg) decreased the destructive damage, activity of lipoperoxidation processes and іNOS.
