The methodology of forming students’ German receptive lexical competence has been theoretically substantiated and practically worked out. The content and structure of the receptive lexical competence has been observed; psychophysiological reasons that secure its forming have been investigated; the interrogation of students with the aim of clarification of their attitude to the learner autonomy and their knowledge of learning strategies has been carried out; the comparative analysis of lexical subsystems of English and German languages has been conducted and methodical typology of lexical units has been formed. On the basis of the selected criteria the choice of educational material for the forming of receptive lexical competence has been made, the subsystem of exercises and the model of students study at the primary grade of linguistic universities who study German as the second foreign language on the basis of English has been theoretically defined and practically elaborated. Two series of experimental teaching have been conducted to prove the suggested validity of methodology; its optimal variants have been substantiated. Methodical recommendations for the forming of receptive lexical competence in German as in the second foreign language after English have been established.
