Essay

The dissertation is devoted to a complex research of the activity of an outstanding researcher in soil science and fruit growing S.S. Rubin (1900 – 1985). To do the in-depth historical and analytical research the main periods in the scientist’s activity were determined. The conditions of formation of the scientific outlook of the scientist were highlighted. His organizational, scientific-research and teaching activity was analyzed. Selfless social and educational activity was analyzed. Main directions of his scientific research were elucidated. The reproduction of an integral picture of the activity of S.S. Rubin made it possible to draw conclusions about his considerable contribution into the development of science, history of science and culture of Ukraine.
