Essay

The thesis is an integral scientific research, in which the phenomenon of German Mass in the Catholic church culture of Austria in the second half of the XVIIIth - the first third of the XIXth centuries is highlighted. The analysis of the modern concepts of religion and culture is performed. The content of the notions "church culture" and "church art" is defined. The cultural-spiritual life of Austria in the context of the josephinist reforms of the epoch of Enlightened absolutism is characterized. The specific features of church art of the mentioned period are considered. The development of the Catholic German Mass and also the related liturgical genres - the German Vesper, German Requiem and German Stabat Mater as the representatives of the Austrian church culture of the mentioned period is characterized and investigated. The texts of the German Masses of M. Haydn, F. Buhler, A. Bauer, F. Schubert and German Vesper of J. Ohnewald are translated into Ukrainian language and analyzed.
