The thesis is devoted to the problem of foreign language acquisition by left-handed junior pupils. The major approaches to a foreign language mastering in national and international psychological and psycholinguistic research have been systematized and generalized. Among them are natural, cultural and historical, activity, subjective, associanistic, transformational-grammatical, psychotherapeutic, and neuropsycholinguistic approaches. Foreign language acquisition is based on the features of left-handed junior schoolchildren's cognitive processes. Psychological characteristics of effective foreign language acquisition by left-handed junior pupils have been determined on the basis of theoretical and empirical results.
