This thesis is a complex research on the image of road in the system of traditional beliefs of Ukrainians (XIX - the beginning of the XX centuries), based on a wide range of publications, archival materials and folklore sources (proverbs, sayings, charms, lullabies, wedding songs, funeral laments, calendar ritual songs, etc.). It examines the archetypal image of road in mythological beliefs and defines the significance of the road locus in folk magic. The symbolism, semantics and ritual functions of the road in traditional family rituals and calendar rites are researched. The rites of preparing for a journey and departure ceremonies related to the road are examined.
