Research Subject - competition activity of qualified athletes-swimmers. Research Goal - to develop and experimentally prove the method of optimum choice of basic and additional competition distances for skilled sportsmen-swimmers taking into account individual morphofunctional, technical and tactical features. Research methods : theoretical analysis of scientific-methodical sources, questionnaire, pedagogical supervision, video recording, analysis of protocols of competitions, analysis of structure of competition activity of sportsmen-swimmers by the special computer program, medicobiological methods, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics. Scientific novelty of the got results : first time the most widespread combinations of competition distances are defined for the sportsmen-swimmers of high qualification and the estimation of their efficiency is offered; the computer program "Videochronometr" is created for the operative analysis of technical and tactical actions of swimmers; the method of optimum choice of basic and additional competition distances is developed taking into account individual morphofunctional features, technical and tactical actions of skilled sportsmen-swimmers and its efficiency is experimentally proved. Results are introduced into preparation of Ukrainian olympic reserve team, "Spartac" swimming school (Kharkov), educational process of teaching of discipline "Modern technologies of preparation in the chosen kind of sport: sports swimming" (for the students of magistracy) of the Kharkov state academy of physical culture.
