The thesis is dedicated to the synthetic analysis of the manifestations of genre of speech riddle from the point of view of semantics and pragmatics in the projection onto the Slavonic and Germanic languages. The status of genre of speech riddle as a communicative phenomenon of discursive nature, which constituents are representative, interrogative and directive speech acts with simple and complex communicative structure, is defined. The constituent elements of genre of speech riddle among which communicative purpose obtains the main position are analyzed.
