Ustiak N. History of carriage-building industry in Ukraine (the end of the XIX c. - first half of the XX c.)

The thesis is devoted to the multilateral research of the carriage-building history in Ukraine (the end of the XIX c. - the beginning of the XX c.). The main periods in the formation and development of the carriage-building industry in Ukraine have been marked out in the thesis. The author discloses the pre-conditions for the carriage-building industry formation and highlights the role played by the main railway workshops and carriage-building works in this process. Special attention has been paid to the forming and functioning of the monopolistic carriage-building syndicate "Prodvagon". In the thesis the principal reasons for renewing and developing the carriage-building industry in soviet Ukraine have been revealed (1924-1950). The whole scientific work and organizational efforts made by outstanding Ukrainian scientists and carriage-building engineers - O. Borodin, O. Hibshman, V. Lazarian, L. Levi, Ye. Paton and many other engineers, having worked for Ukraine - have been reflected by the author as well. In the thesis the author proves that the scientific and pedagogical contribution of these scientists and engineers has become the foundation for generating the new ideas concerning the carriage-building industry further development in Ukraine.
