Zhyvytska I. Paremias that denote man's features of character in the Ukrainian language.

The object - Ukrainians' proverbs denoting man's features of character. The aim - to reveal language means for the expression of Ukrainians' mentality and to determine peculiarities of rendering of man's features of character on the structural and semantic levels of proverbs. Methods - descriptive, modes of component, structural-semantic and contextual analysis. The linguistic status and specific features of paremias have been indicated, the linguistic essence and the identification of a proverb as one of the varieties of paremias have been made more precise in the studies. The proverbs which denote man's features of character and reflect peculiarities of the Ukrainians' mentality have been picked out. The system of language means for the expression of mentality on lexical-semantic level has been characterized. Special attention has been paid to the key concepts of the Ukrainian language picture of the world. The Ukrainians' typical and isolated features of character have been presented, features of character with positive and negative kinds of evaluation have been revealed. The attempt has been made to investigate completely the lexical-semantic structure of the concepts "a woman" and "a man" and to bring out features of character which are conditioned by the gender. The social-cultural significance of the proper names for the expression of the Ukrainians' mentality has been revealed. The semantic-syntactic patterns of the construction of proverbs denoting man's features of character are proposed. The sphere - the educational process.
