Object of study: empathy as a stable personality characteristic. The subject of the study: the psychological characteristics of personality types empathy on example street patrol policemen. Research methods. In investigation we used a system of methods and procedures for obtaining data that include: system-structural method, the method of theoretical analysis and synthesis of primary sources for the study of scientific problems, the method of objective observation, the method of questions, the method of psycho-diagnostic testing, the method of ascertaining experiment, the method of comparative analysis of the results, the method of mathematical statistics. In psychodiagnostic package includes the following methods: 16-PF R. Kettela questionnaire and methodology 'Diagnosis of the level of empathy' V.V.Boyka; questionnaire formal dynamic personality characteristics V.M.Rusalova; four modal emotional questionnaire (L.A.Rabinovich); method of cognitive orientation (locus of control) J. Rotter; method of subjective evaluation of situational and personal anxiety V.N. Spielbergera and Yu.L. Hanina. The scientific novelty of the study is that for the first time: extend and complement the concept of basic channels of empathy, empathy personality types; improved definition of empathy on the part of its system of structuring; identified and semantically filled psychological factors that shape channels of empathy; theoretically grounded and empirically validated empathy personality types; received further development of the relationship between the main components of empathic personality. The practical significance of the study.
