Kobyzhcha N. B. D. Hrinchenko's culturological activity: world view aspect

This dissertation looks into the culturological activities of Borys Hrinchenko , often referred to as the great Ukrainian "Enlightener" of the Ukrainian nation, educational and public actor, pedagogue, writer, translator, specialist in literature, scientists, linguist, ethnogragher, lexicographer, whose activity took place in the conditions of the social and cultural processes on the domestic territory on the edge of late 19th and early 20th centuries, thus determining its specifics. The general directions of the B. D. Hrinchenko's activity are characterized: educational-pedagogical, ethnograghic, literary and publicistic and relevant to them - political one. The research puts a particular emphasis on the Hrinchenko's work at Kyiv Prosvita Society and on his "Dictionary of the Ukrainian language" which embodies ideological values of the Ukrainian nation. We study the connection of the Hrinchenko's educational "enlightening" ideas with the European pedagogical, scientific and educational practices of his times. Moreover, the research tries to determine the Hrinchenko's role in establishing anthropology as an independent branch of science.
